Have You Downloaded Firefox Yet?....if No go and download it

The internet browser market has long been dominated by Internet Explorer, but a new kid on the block -- Firefox -- is making strong inroads against the Microsoft product's dominance. To date, over 75 million copies of Firefox have been downloaded by users around the world. Here are some reasons why you should replace Explorer with Firefox.

1. No Pop Ups. Unlike Explorer, Firefox has a nifty pop up blocker in place. No more garbage to fill your screen as you search the internet with Firefox. Can't say the same for Explorer, however.
2. Your Security. Spyware, trojan horses, and ActiveX controls are stopped in their tracks. Explorer limits through unreliable third party downloads.
3. Quick Downloading. Downloading files is a snap as they are done quickly and painlessly. Once Firefox completes the download you will be prompted to clean up [remove] unneeded files.
4. Tabbed Browsing. Surfing the internet is easier as users can open up one window and set tabs for quick access to multiple web pages. Specifically, all your browser windows actually work within one window, each marked by tabs that you can click in and out of with ease.
5. Tons of extensions, themes, and plug-ins. You can customize Firefox to work the way you want it to work. Download an ad blocker, a new toolbar, a special theme, or include plug-ins such as Adobe Reader, Windows Media Player, Shockwave, Flash Player, and more.
Firefox is not perfect, but it goes a long way further than Explorer in giving users an enjoyable internet experience. For this reason alone, it is worth being downloaded by you.

5 Things NOT to do With Your Blog

Are you fed up with your blog? Do you feel it's not giving you the results you're hoping for? Don't feel bad. Chances are, some missteps were made along the way that contributed to that. Here are the most common ones.

Not Asking For Comments
Bloggers always agonize over the lack of comments. But the problem is not that people don't read the blog or don't want to comment but the blogger hasn't given the opportunity for readers to comment. Just like asking for people to order a product, you've got to coax people to spend their 3 or 4 precious minutes to comment on your blog. Ask for opinions. People love giving it. Ask for reader's experiences, input or help to accomplish something.
Ask people to suggest something to you e.g. You're getting incorporated, ask people for suggestions, tips and recommendations. Asking also tells people you're open to suggestions and alternative views, further improving the image people may have of you.

Not Hosting On Their Own Domain
Too many businesses jump on the blogging bandwagon without thinking through how exactly it will fit into their overall marketing strategy. Blogs are started on other people's sub-domains just to test the waters. Before they know it, the blog has taken a life of it's own and it's too late to get their own domain.

Start it off right. Domains aren't expensive. Even starting the blog on an existing domain is better than someone else's sub-domain because you can control it. Hosting your blog on a blog service's sub-domain is also unprofessional. It's a lot like putting your business site on a Geocities domain. Not pretty.

This way you control where you want to publish the blog to.
Tomorrow, if you outgrow these services, you can easily export your blog to another tool, another host without losing too much established traffic. A domain is also easier for people to remember and easier for you to publicize.

Not Maximizing Their Blog Content
Many businesses quit blogging because they feel it's too much work. True, like everything else, you gotta work on a blog but you don't have to break your back over it. Sometimes you may have a paragraph here and there about a topic that just isn't big enough for an article. You know what? You're going to have many more of these impromptu thoughts and ideas ¨C publish it to your blog.
Later, you can come back and gather these paragraphs, compile them into a complete article or even a book.

That's only one way of maximizing your work. Have you written articles in the past? How about e-courses, audio transcripts or books that aren't in publication anymore? Recycle. Break them up and post them on your blog. In fact, if you have lot's of this type of content, you can even get your assistant to post them for you.

Publishing Too Often
Wow. Did I actually say that? Isn't that like the opposite of everything you've ever learnt about blogging? Yes and no. You see, the blogging world changes. What works yesterday may not today. This is one of them. There are countless of blogs out there and more being started by the day. Who has the time to read so many posts? It's come to a point people cherry pick the blogs they read and even that you're not safe yet. If they can't keep up with
you, they'll drop you no matter how good your information is. Try to keep a balance. Feed information to your readers not dump a truckload on them.

Falling For Short Term Methods
Ah, this is my favorite. If you can have a favorite pet peeve that is.
Every week, you hear about people dishing out the newest, coolest blogging tactic, best blogging tool that's sure to sky rocket your business to success or bull doze your way to the top search engine listings. Consider how any offer will help you advance your business two, five or tens years from now. Is it really in line with your marketing direction? If it isn't drop it. It also helps a lot if you can have a reliable source whom you can consult and help put
things into perspective for you. One of the most powerful qualities of a blog has nothing to do with search engines, tagging or pinging. These things do have a place, but they aren't as powerful as the relationship opportunities between you and your customers.

Although these mistakes are common, they are also very easily rectified and don't cost much money. All of these suggestions are born out of my own trial and error and they've worked out nicely. Try it yourself.

Tips For Buying An Affordable Laptop

Computers for people on the go that is what laptops or notebooks are, your work and entertainment move with you. The computer markets are flooded with laptops of all kinds and configurations.

There are laptops that have WAP cards that keep you connected to the World Wide Web and yet others that can be connected via cables to the internet through mobile phones or hotel cable connections. There are affordable laptops and state-of-art laptops that can run your life for you. In fact at a computer showcasing event a company showcased a laptop that can turn on washing machines, garden sprinklers, ovens, coffee makers, bath water, as well as home security systems. So, even if you are half way across town you can have hot coffee and a warm bath waiting for you when you return.

Don’t be scared a laptop can be affordable too!

1. When planning look for older technology that works well. Don’t aim for the latest. You can buy slightly older laptops with wireless capabilities for lower amounts, two years ago a wireless laptop sold for USD 2500 now there are versions available for even USD1000.

2. Look for laptops with alternate technology. Often an AMD laptop may be more affordable than one that runs on Intel.

3. Used or refurbished laptops are sold for less than half the price of new ones. So you could think about buying one that is around one year old. Very often power users or gamers are so passionate about their laptop configurations that they immediately upgrade when newer technologies become available. Scan through gaming websites and for laptops on sale. The World Wide Web is a great place to buy laptops that are second hand. Look at Trading Sections for posts from gamers who want to sell gaming laptops.

4. Study configurations of laptops once you determine your needs. Try and choose a laptop that has at least 512 MB memory. A laptop with 512 MB can run most non graphic intensive applications.

5. Another aspect you need to look into is processor speed.

6. Try and buy a laptop that is branded this will ensure service and repair continuity.

7. Laptops are sold online at specialist as well as auction websites. So, get a laptop that suits your budget by going online and visiting reputable and leading websites that sell laptops. A comparison study is important as it will save you money.

If you are web savvy and know where to look you can save money on purchases of a laptop or other items by buying what you need on the World Wide Web.

How To Select The Best Student Laptops

Laptops are the perfect educational tool for students. They can handle an innumerable amount of tasks and serve many different functions that allow students to consolidate all of their class assignments and home studies into one convenient location, which simplifies workflow and increases productivity.

The two most important things to look for in a student laptop are portability and battery life. This laptop will likely be carried in a backpack or shoulder bag from class to class, so you will definitely want a system that is light and easy to transport. There is also no guarantee that you will have access to an auxiliary power supply in your classroom or on campus, so you will most likely want a battery that lasts up to several hours per charge.

Desktop real estate can be limited in your class, so you want to make sure your laptop is compact and economical in size, preferably around 14" X 10" in general dimensions.

As far as individual specifications, you can get by with most base configurations. A 1.66GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, a 40GB hard drive, and a standard DVD/CDRW drive should suffice, but you may wish to upgrade certain components depending on whether or not you want to use your notebook for any extra curricular activities, such as gaming or multimedia production.

Unless you intend to do higher-level networking, or unless your school requires domain-based authentication to access the school network (check with your IT department), Windows XP Home Edition should more than meet your needs for an Operating System.

Lastly, you will need some office suite software to process and edit your reports and class assignments. Microsoft Office Basic will be able to handle most of your needs, however, if you plan on doing any slide-show presentations or website creation, you will want to go with Office Pro.

These are the main things you need to know and consider before purchasing a student laptop. This is just a general outline. Feel free to make additional customizations if you have specific requirements for school.

Please, check out these recommendations for the best notebook computers for students.

Great News For Students fighting for Competitive Exams

New admission criteria for medical and engineering colleges
Posted On: February 16, 2012 06:14 pm

Too many entrance exams may not be the right way to evaluate a student's merit level. Vishakha Sharma reports on the recent changes in the admission criteria for medical and engineering colleges

While there have been recent developments in undergraduate admissions at Delhi University (DU) for a Bachelor of medicine, Bachelor of surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of dental surgery (BDS), a proposal for a change in admission criteria to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other engineering colleges will require class XII students to focus more on the board exams.

From now on, admission to Delhi University's (DU) medical and dental colleges will be on the basis of one's rank in the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT). Thus, only students appearing for AIPMT 2012 will be eligible to apply to DU colleges - Lady Hardinge Medical College, Maulana Azad Medical College and University College of Medical Sciences - for medicine, and the Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences for dentistry.

According to Dinesh Singh, vice-chancellor , DU, the decision to scrap the undergraduate entrance examination for MBBS and BDS at DU will act as a relief for students. "We have also written a letter to Vineet Joshi, chairman, CBSE, in this regard," he says.

The AIPMT which will be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will have a preliminary round on April 1 followed by the final round on May 13.

Joshi says, "We have no objection if DU wishes to admit students into its MBBS and BDS colleges based on AIPMT scores, but the university will have to take permission from the Supreme Court for the same."

The second development is regarding the IITs and other engineering institutes in the country proposing that 40% weightage be given to class XII board exams for admissions to engineering colleges. It has been recommended by the T Ramasami committee, which is working for an all new Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) where the entry of students into IITs or any other engineering institute will be based on one single test along with a specified 40% weightage on what one scores in class XII.

According to an IIT-Delhi official, these recommendations were originally made so that students do not neglect classroom learning and stop depending on coaching classes. This recommendation is also for those families who cannot afford to send their children to coaching classes. As of now, no formal decision has been taken, but will be implemented after the approval of the MHRD.

Joshi adds, "Giving specific weightage to class XII scores for admission into engineering colleges will make students attend their classes regularly and fare well in the board exams."

However, a class XII student says, "Changing the JEE pattern at the last moment is unfair for all those students who have been preparing for it since the last two years. If a new system is adopted now, students preparing for IITs will suffer. This decision should have been taken much earlier."
