Maths Phobia - Make Maths your Friend

Introduction

Maths is one of the most crucial subjects in the process of learning and education. It plays an important role in building up the analytical and logical mind of a human being. This is the reason that maths is introduced at the very beginning of any academic curriculum. The process of handling numbers can be very interesting to some while it can be a matter of fear to others. Those weak in maths need to be guided in an ingenious manner in order to develop interest about the subject. Rushing to a tutor is not always the right choice. Parents of such children need to be very patient and sensible with the matter. They need to find creative ways to make the subject interesting to the children. After interest is formed, difference can be noticed in the attitude of the child about the subject. He will then start applying his mind to think for himself. Often parents are found spoon feeding their children with the facts, this yields no results as it only serves to heighten the fear and reluctance. It’s better to persuade them to discover the answers for themselves. Ask him/her questions. Get him to think.

Training your kid to think for himself is perhaps the best gift you can give him. Each child will have his own specific hurdles – it’s important to identify these and be temperate while assist him to comprehend what he finds so hard to understand. Practice, practice and more practice is the only way to master the art of handling numbers. Children need to practice until he or she is certain enough to work out the problems on his own. Practice is what will enable him to have a firm grip and foundation in each of the maths’ fields.Today a number of helps are found on the website which will provide ideas on how to encourage your child to have interest in maths. Educational DVDs are also available, which will help your child realize and comprehend his/her learning in the subject. These DVDs are ingeniously made and intended purposely for every age group. It’s very important to find time to sit with your child every day and open up the world of maths to him. Learning in home has its own benefit as the informal atmosphere helps the child grasp things faster. In today’s world, the focal point has shifted to schools and other educational institutes, or even tutors. And yet, in a way it is the parents who influence their children the most.

Maths continues to be an area of concern among the senior students too. Many are found scratching their heads while sitting in a nerve wrecking competitive exam where even a deficit of .005 point can make a vast difference in their career. This happens mainly because they do not know how to multiply big digit number with another big digit number in a short span of time. They can possibly try some thing that apparently sounds too primitive or old fashioned- The Vedic Math.

Most of the students lack confidence while doing large problems that entails calculations. For such students courses in Vedic maths comes as a great help. Methods taught in the course like the Base method, All from 9 and last from 10, simple squares etc. not only saves time during exams but also increases the accuracy level. A simple example will prove the simplicity of calculation in Vedic maths. Suppose you need to find squares of numbers ending with 5 in less than 3 seconds. Forget about the conventional method that you may have been taught in your school and see this. Take the case of 35, for instance. The word formula is simple and is known as ‘By One more than the One before’ to the ten’s place. So what’s 1 more than 3? It is 4. Therefore one has to multiply 3 with 4 to get 12. That’s the first part of the answer. To get the second part of the answer one has to multiply 5 with 5. The second part of the answer therefore is 25. Now let the second part sit next to the first part to get the final answer. The final answer is 1225. One can keep on trying the same method with 45, 55, 65, 95, 105 and so on.

Maths is widely known to be the Achilles’ heel of quite a large number of students. Numbers often play truant with them and give them nightmares. Handling numbers can be very tricky if you are not that confident. But the oldest schools of Mathematics (Vedic Maths) have helped many, triumph over their fight with numbers who now finds calculations much easier as well as exciting. Vedic maths has proved to be hugely triumphant in reducing with math-phobia among children. Vedic maths is believed to be 10-15 times faster than normal and also sharpens the mind and develops mental liveliness and intellect. Calculations in Vedic Maths are primarily done in the mind. Vedic Maths Forum India is the chief Indian organization that imparts knowledge and training on Vedic Mathematics in India. It has already spread its wings across seven countries and now has planned to set up base across 20 countries in the next couple of years. Vedic Maths is gaining importance with each passing day in India. The reason behind this is the latent maths phobia among a large number of students. The phobia at times results in hatred for the subject among the children. Vedic Maths comes to the rescue of such students as it makes Maths fun and enjoyable through its creative techniques. Vedic maths which is fundamentally Indian in character is gradually becoming acceptable even well-liked all over India. Many parents are now enrolling their children to vadic maths courses and the innovative and high speed techniques of vadic maths are proving to be of great help to them. This school of maths is also quite popular among the senior students who are preparing for competitive exams like JEE, IIT, CAT etc.
