1) Install Irfanview.

2) Open your photograph with the software. For example a poorly lit photo below:

3) Press 'Shift + U' on your keyboard (or click 'Image' -> Auto adjust colors'). You're done! Remember to save your new photo before you close it.

You can further adjust the brightness/contrast or even color of your photo by pressing 'Shift + G' on your keyboard or click 'Image' -> 'Color corrections...'
